Note combinations
Vanilla and benzoin
Vanilla softness meets a sweet, balsamic resin. Start with the notes around them: spices, woods and flowers help distinguish a pastry-like impression from an amber or woody direction.
Vanilla
A warm vanilla-pod image: rounded sweetness with woody or softly powdery depth behind the dessert association. It can soften dry woods, wrap flowers or connect spices to an amber effect. Vanilla can be suggested by extracts and other fragrant materials; the note alone does not prove whole pods, a natural extract, pure vanillin or one botanical species in the perfume.
Benzoin
Warm balsamic resin with vanilla-like sweetness, soft powder and a gently cinnamon-like edge. Benzoin can cushion dry woods or join incense to amber without the burnt-sugar character of caramel. The botanical genus Styrax includes benzoin trees; this does not make the note identical to the balsam called styrax.
