About the house
Frédéric Malle founded his house in 2000 as a publisher of perfumes, putting the perfumers' authorship in view. The catalogue is a collection of individual approaches rather than variations on one house scent. Dominique Ropion's Carnal Flower surrounds tuberose with green and eucalyptus facets, coconut and musk. Olivia Giacobetti's En Passant puts lilac beside cucumber, white musk and cedar, giving flowers a very different atmosphere.
Pierre Bourdon's French Lover turns toward angelica, galbanum, woods and incense. The contrast across these works is between a fuller tuberose composition, a lighter lilac setting and bitter green woods. The author's name and the central idea both help distinguish them.
