Fossil amber

What does this note smell like?

Fossil amber is ancient tree resin. In perfumery, an oil obtained by heating the resin can suggest scorched wood, dark resin and leather. This is a different material reference from the familiar sweet amber accord of resins and vanilla; it is also unrelated to ambergris. The note alone does not identify a supplier or extraction method in a finished perfume.
